Interview: Digital Design with Avatar Emotions Object scanning is the cornerstone of 3D printing. AVATAR émoi shows us the advances in the field by offering you the possibility to print your own Avatar in 3D. More than a simple 3D scan, the artistic dimension is important in the process. Interview with its creator.

Hello Alexandre, can you briefly introduce me to the activities of Avatar émoi and the main objective of your approach?

Hello, AVATAR émoi, in very close partnership with "PLASTER émoi", are two companies based in Paris in the 17th arrondissement that offer you to leave a trace in time, through the "sculpture". While one uses traditional plaster-based techniques, the other uses the latest 3D scanning and printing technology to achieve this.

Can we see in it a desire to reconcile the ancestral and the present? yes indeed, we have a desire to desecrate the 3D technology in which we believed by bringing it closer to the work of the plaster that has been used throughout the ages. With this in mind, we offer a very practical service that allows us to show neophytes a new way of designing and thinking about the object in 3D.

Thus, we demonstrate to people that today we can print everything in 3D: including them. How this translates into product: "PLASTER Emotion" is an artistic company that produces sculptures based on body casts where each participant is both a model and a creator of his own work of art.  In the "AVATAR émoi" case, we digitize the model using the technology developed by Artec, to scan in 3D, then we offer you to print it in 3D in different sizes and materials.

We are happy to be the first company in France to perform bodyscan and offer you new artistic possibilities. As a new player, what is your vision of the world of 3D printing? 3D printing has enormous potential. It is a fast-moving environment where technological advances and opportunities continue to grow.

Nevertheless, it seems to me that the design aspect of the object is still unclear and may be a blockage for part of the population. Today, the problem is that very often people will very quickly be limited by the digitization of the object they want to create, but with the scanner you can have a digital working base rather than starting from scratch...

This interview with AVATAR émoi, with Alexandre, in the workshop of "PLASTER émoi" which has a real artistic personality, was at the very least pleasant. Surrounded by works of art mainly made of plaster but also by ultra-realistic figurines, one can feel the encounter between two worlds that are a priori antagonistic but which in the end feed each other. As soon as I receive my 3D printed avatar I will give you a feedback on its quality and the 3D modeling process.
