Honeycomb, the free online CAD software CAD enthusiasts know how expensive specialized software is. For example, Audodesk's AutoCAD, one of the best known software, costs around €5,000 and its competitor Solidworks from Dassault Systèmes costs over €6,000. There are cheaper or even free alternatives like Sketchup but according to Kenan O'Keefe,they are far from equal to the high-end software he used to use at student rates during his engineering studies at Carnegie-Mellon University. So he developed his own free online CAD software in just 3 months and already available in beta test version: Honeycomb.

3D modeling with this new software is very simple. Honeycomb is already ready for 3D printing with an export function in STL format or to the Shapeways and Thingiverse online services.
The final version will remain free but the advanced features will be reserved for a premium paid version ( "freemium" business model). This will be an opportunity to check if Honeycomb is closer to AutoCAD than Sketchup, as its developer Kenan O'Keefe wants, and with this project, the adage that you are never better served than by yourself makes sense.
