Dreambox, a 3D printing distributor Even better than the 3D printing service available at Top Office, students from the University of Berkeley (California) have developed a self-service distributor. Called Dreambox, it delivers neither food nor condoms but 3D printed objects!

As a major research university, UCB was already equipped with some 3D printers. However, students sometimes had to wait several weeks before they could benefit from it. Based on this observation, a group of three students invented the Dreambox.

The machine has a touch screen on board which allows you to program your printing, from a supplied model or from an embedded object catalogue. The cost of the service is only $15 and users are notified by email as soon as the printing is finished, it is stored in a locker closed by code until it can be retrieved.

So that university campuses do not turn into real battlefields with 3D printed weapons, the Dreambox designers have intelligently integrated a protection mechanism that prevents this kind of dangerous 3D printing, in addition to having mentioned it in the conditions of use. if success is on the side - which there is no doubt - these new generation distributors will multiply in universities and why not shopping centres.

Currently printing is done with plastic but other raw materials such as metal are already being considered, and one more step is being taken towards the daily use of 3D printers.
